Types of Chiropractic Techniques We Offer

Activator Technique

Designed to restore motion to your spinal joints, the Activator Technique uses a small, hand-held instrument, known as the Activator Adjustment Instrument, to deliver quick, low-force impulse at specific points along the spine. This specialized chiropractic technique is often used to treat neck pain, back pain, and chronic headaches.

Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic

The Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic Technique uses a highly advanced percussion instrument to gently and precisely align the first bone in your spine, the atlas bone. As the vertebra at the top of your spine, the atlas bone is the vertebra on which your head sits. When the atlas bone is misaligned, it not only compromises blood supply to your brain but it also impairs your brain’s ability to seamlessly send messages throughout your nervous system. When the atlas bone is properly aligned, your spine is stable and your body is able to heal and function at its optimal level without nerve interference. This specialized chiropractic service is available at select Anodyne clinics.

Diversified Technique

One of the most common chiropractic techniques, the Diversified Technique improves your body’s healing powers and functionality by correcting spinal misalignments that can interfere with your nervous system. The technique utilizes a range of chiropractic adjustments involving the delivery of quick, short thrusts to restricted joints—either by hand or with the assistance of a table or block

Flexion Distraction Technique

The Flexion Distraction Technique uses a segmented table and gentle, manual manipulations to stretch your spine. This stretch creates negative pressure in the spinal discs—the cushions between each of your vertebrae—which, in turn, takes pressure off of your spinal discs, allows herniated and bulging discs to retract, and reduces nerve pressure.

Gonstead Technique

The Gonstead Technique identifies spinal misalignments by performing a comprehensive, five-step analysis of your spine: visual examination of posture and movement; use of an instrument to detect inflammation and spinal pressure; assessment of swelling, tenderness, and tightness while you are stationary; spinal assessment while you move and bend; and x-ray analysis of posture, disc integrity, and alignment. Equipped with this thorough analysis, a chiropractor is able to use precise, targeted movements to adjust specific vertebrae.

Sacro Occipital Technique

The Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) uses strategically placed wedge-shaped blocks to correct imbalances on both ends of your spine—your sacrum (tail bone) and your occiput (the base of your skull). By addressing alignments in the skull and pelvis, SOT improves the communication of nerve impulses along the entire spinal column.

Thompson Drop Technique

The Thompson Drop Technique is designed to locate and correct vertebrae that are out of position—misalignment that can cause pain, inflammation, and compromise your body’s ability to heal itself by interfering with your nervous system. To determine the adjustments needed, the Thompson Drop Technique uses a unique approach—analyzing disparities in leg length to identify where and in what order corrections should be made.

About Chiropractic Treatments

Our doctors may recommend chiropractic treatments for your back pain, neck pain, headaches, or joint and body stiffness. Chiropractic care is the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system—especially of your spine. Your spine houses 31 pairs of nerves—each of which is dedicated to a certain region of your body. Even the slightest misalignment in your spine can interfere with your brain’s ability to send messages to these nerves or to regions within your nervous system. “Short circuiting” within your nervous system can result in many symptoms—including pain—felt throughout your body. Our extensive chiropractic adjustment services include specialized chiropractic techniques that properly align your body’s musculoskeletal structure—restoring mobility and providing pain relief to your muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue (e.g., your cartilage, ligaments, and tendons).
